A contemporary dance workshop exploring interweaving movements, braids, and body-to-body contact through group and partner work, improvisation, and physicality.

Where: LA CASA BARBARA , Molières sur Cèze. 30410. Gard, France

When: August 25th-29th, 2025

Deadline for applications: June 2025

This workshop will be held in a 19th-century church in Cévennes, now transformed into a research space.
We will explore the theme of interweaving with entanglements, twists, and braids—a mixed, blended dance. We will combine circulations, structures, group and partner explorations, and mass movements characteristic of Ex Nihilo’s style. Through physical and instinctive dance, we will engage in marches, braids, runs, face-to-face contact, and partnering. The day will be divided into two parts: a warm-up in the morning focused on intense floor work, followed by a standing dance leading into lifts. The workshop will also include time for research and improvisation, solo or in group, both indoors and outdoors, with particular attention to performing.
The company Ex Nihilo was founded in 1994 with the intention of taking dance out of the rehearsal studio and the stage: to “push down the walls” to meet the public, to make the public space a privileged place for research and creation, to link the public space and the places of art by putting back into play and renewing the forms for the stage and the singular spaces.
