In this workshop, choreographer Zoë Demoustier invites you to a physical practice at the intersection of contemporary dance and “mime corporelle”. Combining physical training improvisation, and contemporary dance techniques, participants explore how to move with intention rather than form.
Where: Iwanson Contemporary Dance, Adi-Maislinger-Straße 12, 81373 Munich, Germany
When: 11 – 15 August, 2025
In this workshop, choreographer Zoë Demoustier invites you to a physical practice at the intersection of contemporary dance and mime corporelle – a technique that understands the body as the creator of meaning.
Participants can explore how to move with intention rather than form. It’s not about pretending, but about being. How can the moving human body tell a story? How do we place drama within the body? Through physical acting techniques, body articulation and movement research, the participants search for ways to make the invisible visible.
The workshop combines contemporary dance techniques, physical training and improvisation. The participants play with strength, timing, space and dynamics and work from a present place – a “zero point” – to build an individual physical language that can exist both within structures and in freedom.
The Professionals Workshop aims to deepen the understanding of the body as a means of expression. It is aimed at performers and dance makers who are curious about the imaginative and performative potential of movement and are ready to engage in a more nuanced, research-driven physical practice.
The Advanced workshop enables advanced dancers with a strong foundation in dance and movement to expand their expressive abilities and explore the connection between intention, embodiment and performance.
Zoë Demoustier is a Brussels-based choreographer with a background in contemporary dance, Dutch mime and cultural research. She develops her work under the artistic wings of Ultima Vez, where she is currently creating a new piece, “Hear the Silence”, in collaboration with laGeste (Les ballets C de la B) and KVS. She teaches and conducts artistic research at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam and at the Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp and is active in various international artistic contexts.
